This
photograph was taken
from the top
of Carn Galva
- one of
the highest points
in Penwith. On
a clear day
the Isles of Scilly and the
twin peaks of Roughtor and Brown
Willy on Bodmin Moor
are visible from
its summit. The Carn is accessible
from the B3306
West Penwith coast
road at Bosigran. This exhilarating stretch of winding road between
St. Ives and Morvah is flanked
on the one
side by a
succession of rugged
carns
and tors and
on the other
by a patchwork
of lowland field
systems and granite
cliffs tumbling dramatically
into the sea.
It is a
breathtakingly beautiful and unspoilt
landscape dotted by
the occasional hamlet
or farmstead and one that
has changed little
over the centuries.
